Marco Polo Terrier Adult - Adoption, Rescue for sale in Salt Lake City, Utah

Marco Polo had a sad start to life. He came from a hoarding situation where, for the first couple of years of his life, he didn't know any human affection. He was stuck in a small apartment with dozens of other dogs fending for themselves. When animal control came to rescue him, he was the most frightened, so they had to use some force to get him to safety. That, of course, didn't help in his trust of humans. His first day with CAWS, and his foster, he was so scared that he bolted and dug under a fence. This scrappy, resourceful boy was on the run for 4 days, travelling 3-4 miles, dodging traffic. Thank goodness he was eventually rescued (again) and retuned back to his foster home.

He was scared and frightened his first few days. But all he needed was to learn that his foster family didn't want to hurt him. They just wanted to show him love and take care of him. He slowly, came out of his safe crate, then his safe room and then eventually he became a part of the family in daily life. All it took was some patience and love (and some good treats didn't hurt either). He is still scared of strangers, so he does need to be approached carefully. But once he gets to know you, he is loving and affectionate. He loves to run around, chase a ball, or just receive a nice belly rub. Marco is a very sweet boy that just needs to be shown that he is loved.

He is potty trained and crate trained and has a good recall. He does get a little protective so his new family should understand that he does need that level of patience. Because of his past, he shouldn't go to a home with small children and only dog savvy older kids. Do you have to room, love, patience and understanding for a very special boy like Marco Polo?
